I came across this restaurant while browsing Instagram and had to add it immediately as a design destination! In the age of social media every restaurant and bar seems to step up their design in the hopes of going viral, so it is actually pretty rare to find something that stands out from the crowd as much as While We Were Young. I knew the moment I saw the wood paneling, blush tufted banquette and brass detailing, I had to find out more.
Located on West 10th street in New York, the restaurant is only 500 sf but large windows and a light and airy interior make it feel much larger. The restaurant was designed by owner Bradford Dunigan and features healthy contemporary American cuisine and unique cocktails with catchy names like “too good for you”. Bradford credits the inspiration for the interior to his hometown in Ft. Lauderdale as well as the Bahamas. These locations influenced “the wave-shaped bar, shades of pink, surfboard cutouts, and star-studded ‘night sky’ floors” (read more from Bradford in this article from Roxy Hotel).
The restaurant is open for dinner seven days a week and hosts an incredibly popular brunch on the weekend. Tell me in the comments below, have you visited While We Were Young? This is definitely at the top of my NYC list.
