Today we are transporting over to the East Coast to beautiful Watch Hill, Rhode Island. The Ocean House has had a sterling reputation of hospitality for over 100 years. Ocean House is the first and only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star hotel in Rhode Island. The spa and restaurant are also Forbes Five Star rated making Ocean House a triple five start resort, one of only thirteen in the world. Ocean House is also a member of Relais & Châteaux which sets the gold standard for unique independent hotels around the globe.
Ocean House originally opened in 1868 and became one of the premier locations for the wealthy “to summer”. In 1916 Ocean House was featured in the silent movie American Aristocracy. It went on to have over 100 successful years in business. In 2003, the original structure closed when it was determined to be beyond repair and in 2004 a new structure replicating the original exterior design was created. The resort now features 49 rooms and 18 signature suits. All of the 247 windows remain in their original positions and over 5,000 artifacts and furnishing elements were brought in from the original interiors. The resort features 13 acres of oceanfront property with a 650 foot private white sand beach.
The interior and exterior of this hotel has been restored so thoughtfully to recreate a time in history that was filled with elegance and hospitality. To me, this hotel exemplifies classic New England style from the detailed woodwork, coastal color palette and nautical influences throughout. If you are looking for a quintessential New England summer getaway, this is the place.
